It’s basically the same as any standard platformer, with the player controlling a character that runs, jumps and jumps again. We are able to jump and run along the mushroom map using the letters keys, or (as well as the arrow keys) using the gamepad. Jump mode is activated by tapping the A button (left analog stick on the gamepad) or by pushing the jump button on the keyboard (the joypad). The jumping and running in the game is used to avoid the grass and other obstacles, so as well as moving the joystick, we use it to move around and look around. While moving we are also checking for enemies and traps, and as soon as an enemy or trap shows up, we can either avoid it and continue moving as normal or we can press or use the D-pad / joystick buttons to activate an attack (for support characters, but can be activated for other characters as well with a rune). The attack method is mainly done for special mushrooms, or to make it easier to defeat certain enemys. We also use the firing method on certain mushrooms. This works as follows: 1. We must find a mushroom that has a target that we can hit. 2. When we approach the mushroom we need to aim and press the fire button. 3. We must then wait for the time to elapse, or the wave to finish before we can pull the trigger again. 4. Once the trigger is pulled, a mushroom shoots out of the ground, running towards the target, and then makes a big animation to show us its intention to hit the target. 5. As soon as the head of the mushroom reaches the target the mushroom explodes and kills our enemy (by default the mushroom explodes the enemy on contact, but you can use our attack switch to have it just obliterate the enemy, or you can have it hit its target and then poison them for a longer effect). 6. Once the enemy has been defeated, we take their health in exchange for our rune. If we do not have enough health, we do not finish the wave, and the animation is done a little longer in order to convey this. 7. As soon as we complete the wave, the next wave for the next target will appear. 8. Whenever we finish a wave, we are taken to a score display on the lower right of the screen which lists the player name, the amount of enemies we fought, as well as the time taken to complete
