ChromaSquares starts with a 96×48 pixel display, a set of three fixed grid colors (blue, red, and yellow), and a single random color. The goal of the game is to fill all of the board with a single color. The difficulty can be adjusted by increasing or decreasing the number of colors used. For example, if we add seven more colors to the starting palette, then the last color will no longer be random, and eight colors will be used in the palette. The game board can be increased to 96×80, or to 128×112 by adding one more color to the initial palette. The larger the board, the easier it is to reach every color. The playing area can be altered to a 4×4 grid by adding a second row to the game board. The color palette can be reduced to the starting 3 colors to accommodate a 4×4 grid. When the board is playing area is reduced to 4×4, there is one more layer of randomization. The colors in the palette are divided into 3 sets of 4 colors. The difference between the random color and one of the four colors is taken as a color palette in itself. When this is the case, the game will not restart until all three colors have been used.
