I’ve hit a plateau on my squat. I’m down to 205 lb at the moment and my new squat max at the moment is 225. I’ve been able to squat 500 a couple of times but my last competition I had dropped to 365. Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been really trying to pump up the volume on the squat workouts. I’ll be doing a full squat workout on Tuesday but on Sundays I’ll be doing a „2×5” and a „1×8”.
Is this a good approach or not?
I’m not getting over 300 lb yet. I understand that if you can barely touch 375, you’re definitely not there yet. If I continue to pump up my volume though, will I reach my potential?
Of course you’re not there yet. There’s a ton of strength to be gained, but even if you did all the exercises in a full workout, even with perfect technique and technique practice, and did reps to failure, you’re probably not going to get strong enough to do 250 lbs. The way to get strong enough is to be able to add in some weight consistently. Not the same as adding a little here and there, but adding in more weight to your lifts is how strength gains are made.
I’m not suggesting you stop your volume at all. In fact, it sounds like you’re going to go too far – if you add more volume to a lift you’re likely to make it weaker.
