Deathsmiles is a Windows PC exclusive first-person shooter. It puts you in the hands of a Special Forces soldier that is sent in to eliminate aliens known as “Shifters”, who are intent on taking over the Earth. According to the game’s official website, “As you go through the game, you will get to be one of the last defenders of Earth. As you perform missions, save civilians, and complete assignments, you will get to be “the hero” of the Earth, for a time.” This game was developed by the same company behind the famous Doom series, id Software. It was written by John Carmack and Adrian Carmack. Deathsmiles was released on June 1, 2011. The game sold around 10,000 copies in its first year and has become a cult hit for fans. Features: Superpowers – Earn superpowers as you progress through the game and use them to destroy the Shifters and create your own armies. Unique Level Skins – Shifters are among the most advanced alien species known to mankind, so they will surprise you at every turn. Each mission has a variety of level skins, including urban environments, jungle environments, and desert environments. Shifters are unpredictable – A single Shifter’s behavior can change drastically based on its level. Shifters can also spawn in different numbers for each level and in turn have their own rules and tactics. Bring your own powers and abilities – Shifters aren’t the only advanced alien force on the level – and you can create and use your own special weapons and abilities. Any weapon or ability can be upgraded from its default to your desired level. Breathtaking visuals – Deathsmiles is rendered at a native resolution of 1920×1080. It features impressive art style, lighting, and particle effects. Deathsmiles also features the use of PhysX, which gives the game some cool 3D effects such as smoke and dynamic lighting. After a short break of almost 6 months the Stronghold Crusader 2: The Jackal and The Khan project is back up and running. Last week we shared the first of what will be many, many, dev diaries for the game and this week we thought we would concentrate more on the game itself and the elements which define the control scheme. We thought this would be more beneficial to provide answers to most of the questions which you may have had about the game’s mechanics. Before we start with our inaugural dev diary of the new project I would first like to apologise in advance for the fact that the first couple of dev diaries may be something of a rough and ready affair. We have not spent a lot of time on graphical assets this week, instead focusing solely on the mechanics and game features. That being said, as soon as we get to Diaries 2 and 3 we will return to the graphical assets and rework the engine, so that the visuals will be better in the final game. Gameplay Our designers have taken this Friday’s dev diary as an opporunity to finally show off the game to you and explain the game’s mechanics in all their glory. However before we do that we thought it would be more beneficial to concentrate on the things that define Crusader 2 and the game’s unique and unique brand of gameplay. Crusader 2 is quite different to any other real time tactics game we have played. You will have to understand that it is quite easy to get lost in Crusader 2’s unusual game mechanics and nuances. My Thoughts You have to experience this one for yourself, because it is a very unique experience. I want to say that it feels more like I was in a movie theater than I was at home watching television, not to put to down the quality of TV, but I enjoyed seeing how someone could make this happen. My biggest issue with this game was the voice over of the people, at times it seemed like they were talking to themselves, because there were such abrupt pauses between the character’s mouths, so you just couldn’t tell what they were saying. It sounded a bit pretentious, almost like they were modeling their voice overs to the highest standard of acting, for example, I thought that ‘Holy’ was playing the part of a woman, not God.
